2 Ways To Cancel Your Bluehost Subscription

Bluehost is one of the most popular and reliable web hosting companies in the world. But sometimes, we’re looking to retire its use and that’s not always a straightforward thing to do.

If you’re looking to cancel your Bluehost subscription, there are two main ways you can do it. You might find it a bit confusing off the bat, but don’t worry!

2 Ways To Cancel Your Bluehost Subscription

We’re going to go over everything you need to know here about canceling your Bluehost subscription. So, let’s get into it.

What Is Bluehost?

For those of you who don’t know about Bluehost, it is a web hosting service that manages your domain name and web page. It is primarily used for WordPress websites.

Along with domain name hosting, it also provides services such as a drag-and-drop site builder, unlimited disk storage, file transfer services, and templates for your website and email accounts.

It’s a great asset to have if you’re serious about getting your website out there.

The main issue with Bluehost though is that it can be a bit pricey.  If you’re running a website as a bit of a side project or a hobby, Bluehost may not be the best thing for your income.

While it’s a very reliable and good service, this is usually the reason why people cancel their Bluehost subscription.

How To Cancel Bluehost

There are two ways you can cancel your Bluehost subscription. You can do it by either phone or live chat or by opening a support ticket.

If you’re in the first 30 days of your subscription, you can simply cancel and you’ll be refunded for that first month.

If you’ve passed the 30-day threshold though, you cannot claim a refund and you have to do a little bit more than just cancel your subscription.

We’ll go over both methods here. As long as you follow each step, you’ll have no problem canceling your subscription.

An important note you should know before moving forward: canceling your subscription does not cancel your domain registration.

The domain will stay under your control until you give up the domain registration, which is a whole separate process. You also can’t get a refund on your domain registration. So just keep this in mind when you are canceling your web hosting subscription.

2 Ways To Cancel Your Bluehost Subscription (1)

Method 1: Phone Or Live Chat

The first method for canceling your Bluehost subscription is by phone or live chat.

Follow these steps to cancel:

1.Look at the Bluehost Terms of Service. You will want to familiarize yourself with the terms of service and review them to make sure you know how to go about canceling your subscription. To speed up the process, concentrate on sections 2 and 3 as they talk about cancellation fees, non-refundable fees, and refunds.

2.Now you want to back up all of your data and files that you want to keep. Once your Bluehost subscription has been canceled, this data will be deleted from the server.

3.Once this is sorted out, you will either call the Bluehost Billing Department on this number, (888) 401-4678, or you will start a live chat with a Bluehost live chat agent.

4.Tell the Bluehost representative that you want to cancel your Bluehost account.

5.Now you will need to provide the representative with your first name and last name, as well as the domain name associated with the account that is being canceled and the last four digits of your cPanel login password.

6.You will want to ask to cancel your domain name for automatic renewal. You can leave this setting if you want to keep your domain name active though.

7.Once step 6 is complete, the representative will begin the process of canceling your Bluehost Subscription.

Method 2: Opening A Support Ticket

If you’d prefer a different method of cancellation.

You can follow these steps to do it by opening a Support Ticket:

1.Look at the Bluehost Terms of Service. You will want to familiarize yourself with the terms of service and review them to make sure you know how to go about canceling your subscription. To speed up the process, concentrate on sections 2 and 3 as they talk about cancellation fees, non-refundable fees, and refunds.

2.Back up all of your data and files that you want to keep. Regardless of what method you use, when you cancel your subscription, all your Bluehost data will be deleted from the servers.

3.With everything in order in terms of your files and data, go to this link to open a support ticket.

4.Select “Cancellation” and click “OK”.

5.Now you want to enter your email address. Bluehost will send any replies to this email address.

6.Next, enter your full name, domain name, and the password that is associated with your account.

7.Go to the box that says “What can we help you with?” and enter a message informing Bluehost that you want to cancel your account. If you need to add any files to this message, you can do that by clicking the “Choose File” button located under the message box.

8.Now you will need to enter the verification code by typing the text in the box that is provided.

9.Don’t forget to copy your reference number for your support ticket.

10.It can take between 24 and 48 hours for Bluehost to get back to you. When they do get back to you though, they may ask you for the last 4 digits of your credit card, the last 4 digits of your cPanel login password, or the 7 digit PayPal invoice number.

11.Finally, request to cancel your domain name renewal to stop the domain name renewal process.

Conclusion

Though it may seem a bit complicated to cancel your Bluehost subscription at first, if you follow the two methods we have provided, you won’t have any more issues in sorting it out.

You can use either of these methods whenever you want to cancel your Bluehost subscription, so if you ever come back to the service, you’ll known how to cancel it in the future too if you need to.
